Welcome to the Infinite Now.
This ever-present space that exists beyond the mind, beyond emotions, beyond the movement of “me” — this open space is always here.
But are we conscious of it?
OK, putting aside all the woo-woo I just mentioned, let me tell you about what’s truly shifted in my life.
I used to be overwhelmed by anxiety. I would be in fight-or-flight mode at various points throughout my day, even when I went to the grocery store. Being around people was a constant struggle.
I wasn’t sure what was wrong with me.
So, I dove deep into self-help and spiritual teachings. They helped in some ways, but in a greater sense, they left me always feeling incomplete — like there was something inherently wrong with me, something that needed to be fixed.
And I see this all the time. So many people suffer from this affliction — the feeling of not being enough. Especially in the Western world, depression and anxiety are at all-time highs. But it doesn’t have to be this way. And I found the root cause of my inner turmoil, the source of my mental health struggles, and the reason I felt like I wasn’t enough. More importantly, I found the way to be free of it.
The deepest realization I had was this: all that mental noise was a creation of the mind. Every label — anxiety, depression, ADHD — was simply a story I (or my mind) was telling myself.
This led me to a deeper question: Who is the mind talking to? Who is perceiving these thoughts? There must be something beyond the mind and its emotions. Who or what is witnessing all of this?
Is it consciousness? God? The infinite? Who is hearing these thoughts?
I needed to know.
So, I deepened my meditation practice and sought out spiritual teachings until I realized the truth:
The one listening — it’s no one, really. It’s nothing. It’s the empty, vast space of consciousness. Pure awareness. The unmanifest. The divine. Source. This unknowable witness is who we truly are.
When you recognize this truth — that you are not your thoughts, you are not your emotions — and you ask yourself, Who am I? and realize there’s no answer, no place to point, that is when you’ve found it.
What remains is nothingness — the vast void of emptiness. This is who we are. And it’s not a thing. You can’t grab it, describe it, or even talk about it. It simply is. It’s the vast ocean of consciousness through which all thoughts, emotions, sensations, sounds, and feelings flow like waves.
When we deeply realize who we truly are, that’s where freedom lies. This is the freedom that Jesus spoke of, that Buddha spoke of, that other enlightened teachers spoke of. This is the Atman — the true self, the higher self.
This is who we really are. This is all that needs to be known. Once you have this inner knowing of your true self, everything else falls away. The problems, the suffering, the drama of “little me” become just passing waves.
Of course, when we have this realization, we may still notice the old patterns appearing in our lives. But when we return to the deep knowing that we are the ocean, not any one particular wave, we remember our true freedom — which exists right here, in the present moment.
There is no future to chase. There is no “someone” we need to become. We just are. We are open, free, loving, and at peace in this moment. And from here, everything becomes simple and wonderful.
I hope you can experience this for yourself.
